As Pittsburgh Steelers fans celebrate Jack Lambert on his 70th birthday, check out some of the best records to know about the franchise’s GOAT Linebacker.

NFL fans during the 1970s and 80s saw a plethora of incredible defensive talent all around the league, but few players can claim to have matched the skill and greatness of LB Jack Lambert. The Pittsburgh Steelers saw tons of potential in #58 when they selected him in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft. Lambert proved them right by going on to become the best Linebacker in the history of the franchise. He was a leader of many incredible defenses, including the 1976 unit that is considered one of the best ever.

Born and raised in Ohio, Lambert went on to play college football at Kent State before being selected in the draft. Lambert’s intensity struck fear into the hearts of any offense that faced Pittsburgh from the mid 70s to the mid 80s, as “Mad Man Jack” made nine straight Pro Bowls and was selected to the All-Pro 1st Team six times. Hall of Fame QB John Elway was famously quoted as saying that he wanted to leave the stadium and “be an accountant” the first time he faced Lambert.

Not only was he a spectacular player, the renowned LB was also an incredible leader, as he was the heart and soul of many elite Pittsburgh defenses during the beginning of the Terrible Towel era. Saddled alongside LB Jack Ham and DT “Mean Joe” Greene, the three led some of the greatest defenses in NFL history during their time together. Lambert became a first ballot Hall of Famer in 1990, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Pittsburgh Steelers history.
