Corbin Burnes was named the National League Cy Young on Wednesday, capping a terrific season that saw him lead the majors in ERA. Burnes finished 11-5 with a 2.43 ERA, edging out Zack Wheeler and Max Scherzer to win his first of the major awards. He did it in his first full year as a starter, with last year being a shortened COVID season.
Burnes’ cutter was historic, as his 117 strikeouts with it were the most ever by a pitcher in a single season. He spearheaded a stellar rotation that also featured Brandon Woodruff, who finished 5th in Cy Young voting. Their rotation led them to a NL Central title, although they fell short to the eventual World Champion Braves but Burnes’ brilliant season has him in the record books forever.
