Former Raiders HC Jon Gruden’s Legacy is Now Changed Forever
Jon Gruden has resigned from his position as HC of the Raiders following an investigation into homophobic and racist emails made by him

Following a leaked email in which Jon Gruden used a racial trope against NFLPA executive director Demaurice Smith, he resigned as further emails came to light, exposing Gruden’s sexist and homophobic comments within the last decade. Gruden was brought in for a second run as the Raider’s head coach to be the face of their move to Vegas but now he leaves in disgrace after never bringing the desired product to the field.
The Raiders never made the playoffs in any of Gruden’s three years, and his job would have already been in question at the end of the season if that run continued. Before resigning on Monday, he was the only HC to not make the postseason in any of the last three years and still be employed by the same team. Ultimately, he leaves the team in a much darker light that has called his character and overall legacy into question.

The controversial emails conclude a strenuous three plus years in Gruden’s second stint as the Raiders head coach. Up until last week, this run was characterized by missed first-round draft picks and late season collapses. Gruden’s massive contract brought promises of the Raider’s first playoff win since 2002.
Instead, it brought more of the same in terms of disappointment and questionable decision-making that Raiders fans have become accustomed to. This scandal will not only end Gruden’s career in football, but will have a lasting stain on his legacy that once defined by a 2002 Super Bowl victory, QB camp with top prospects, and colorful commentary on Monday Night Football. Now what people will remember first about Gruden will be his disrespectful comments that are being made public 10 years later.
