CB Jimmy Moreland was selected by Washington with the 227th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of James Madison University where he won a FCS National Championship. Despite being a late-round pick, Moreland has seen a decent amount of regular season action in his first two seasons, appearing in all 16 games during the 2020 season while starting five of them.

Despite showing promising potential as “The People’s Corner” in DC, the Washington Football Team made a surprising decision to leave him off the 53-man roster and the Houston Texans quickly claimed the young CB with their No.1 waiver wire priority. Moreland has a chance to make a name for himself amongst a talented Houston secondary as a top slot cornerback in the NFL.

JIMMY MORELAND CAN BECOME A PREMIER NFL SLOT CB

Jimmy Moreland has largely flown under the radar since entering the league in 2019. As a seventh round draft pick, he was likely seen as a longer-term development project that could pan out into a solid backup or rotational player. Seeing a player without much of a draft pedigree hit the waiver wire would have most fans and football enthusiasts gloss over it, but the Houston Texans used their No.1 waiver priority on this young CB for a reason.

In just two seasons, however, Moreland has shown that he has great potential, especially when he plays in the slot with his 5’11”, 182 lb frame. The JMU product is quick off the snap and good with his hands, and he has also demonstrated that he is a tough and capable tackler despite his relatively smaller frame. As he continues to develop and learn from more experienced defensive backs in Texas like Bradley Roby and Desmond King, Moreland will look to establish his place as a premier slot CB in the NFL.
