Every sports league has statistical clubs from the NBA’s 50-40-90 Club to the NFL’s 5,000 Yards Club. In the MLB, the games elite batters hope to one day claim membership to their own group, the 3,000 Hit Club and the 500 HR club. Reaching either monumental mark is a testament to a player’s individual greatness. May 17th in sports history marks the anniversary of all-time great batsman Hank Aaron becoming the first member to join both legendary clubs. Aaron was one of the greatest players to ever take the field, some could argue he was the best ever (at least to do so without steroids).

  • Hank Aaron was the 1st player ever with 3,000 hits and 500 HRs
  • Hammerin’ Hank became the 9th player to record 3,000 career hits in MLB history on May 13, 1970
  • Most career RBI’s (2,297) during the Modern Era (since 1900)
  • Passed Babe Ruth for the most HR (715) in MLB history during 1974. He would hold on to the record until 2007
  • 1st in TB (6,856), 1st in XBH (1,477), 1st in RBIs (2,297), 2nd in HR (755), 3rd all-time in Hits (3,771), 4th in Runs (2,174)

HANK AARON RECORDS HIS 3,000 HIT IN HIS MLB CAREER

Eight players had recorded 3,000 career hits before “Hammerin” Hank Aaron, but only the Atlanta Braves great could claim 500 of those to be home runs at the time. This milestone did not take into account the 41 hits and five home runs Aaron recorded during 26 games in the Negro American League with the Indianapolis Clowns. The HOF OF’s ability to hit the ball in play and smash it over the fence was rivaled by none and why he’s largely considered one of the greatest hitters ever, especially considering he also has the most RBI’s, Total Bases, and Extra Base Hits of all-time on top of his other amazing achievements.
