Brett Favre was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 33rd overall pick of the 1991 NFL Draft. However, he is most well-known for his time with the Green Bay Packers, where he won three consecutive MVP awards and a Super Bowl title. On this day in sports history, Favre shocked the football world by announcing his plans to come out of retirement (again) and sign a two-year deal with Green Bay’s division-rival Minnesota Vikings.

PACKERS HOF QB BRETT FAVRE UNRETIRED TO SIGN WITH DIVISION-RIVAL VIKINGS

Brett Favre had an extraordinary run with the Green Bay Packers, racking up numerous accolades during his 16 years with the team. He earned All-Pro 1st Team honors and won the MVP award in three consecutive seasons from 1995-1997, while also leading the league in passing touchdowns four times. Despite being one of the greatest quarterbacks in franchise history, however, Favre did not end his professional career the way many expected.

After announcing that he would retire two separate times, the Southern Mississippi product decided to return to the gridiron once more, this time with the Minnesota Vikings. 2009 saw the 11x Pro Bowl QB have one of the best seasons of his career as he led the Vikings to the NFC Championship game, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints (largely due to his crucial interception). Despite the change of scenery, Favre showed that he was still among the best in the game.
