On July 8, 2010, LeBron James made the dramatic “Decision” to leave his hometown of Cleveland for a chance to compete for the title in Miami. Along with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, he delivered two championships in just four seasons to the Heat fanbase. On this day in 2014, James announced that he was ready to take on his next challenge, and the largest of his career.

The King returned to Cleveland to bring the city its first NBA title, and first championship in 52 years. The Cavs entered the next season as favorites, boasting a new Big 3 with James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. The season ended as planned with them securing the one seed, but misfortune struck in the playoffs when Love dislocated his shoulder in the first round and Irving fractured his knee in the first game of the NBA Finals.

LeBron was unable to overcome the rising Golden State Warriors and Cleveland lost 4-2 despite triple-double averages from the King and heroic performances from Matthew Dellavedova. Cleveland returned the following season for a Finals rematch against the reigning champs. Despite being the underdogs against a legendary 73-9 Warriors squad, the Cavs made a historic 3-1 comeback to win the series.
