On this day in 2015, the sons of two Dominican MLB players, Fernando Tatis and Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, were officially signed to play professional baseball. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. both debuted in 2019, Guerrero for the Toronto Blue Jays and Tatis for the San Diego Padres. Tatis had been originally signed with the Chicago White Sox but was traded along with Erik Johnson for James Shields.
Both Tatis Jr. and Guerrero Jr. became All-Star starters in 2021 and MVP candidates for their respective franchises. The two are spearheading the youth movement in the MLB and are living up to the big shoes they had to fill from their fathers before them. Vlad Jr. had to live up to the HOF resume of his father while Tatis Jr. follows the footsteps of a player who hit an MLB record two Grand Slams during one inning.
