Rollie Fingers made his MLB debut September 15, 1968 and got roughed up, giving up four runs in one inning of relief. Fingers did not let this get to him, and by his sixth year in the MLB, he made his first All-Star game after recording a 1.92 ERA. He continued to play at an excellent level and made it to three consecutive All-Star games thereafter, even finishing third in Cy Young voting in 1975. After nine years with the A’s, Fingers played four years for the Padres and won the NL MVP/Cy Young with Milwaukee that highlighted his 17-year career.

ROLLIE FINGERS WAS 1 OF THE GREATEST MLB RELIEF PITCHERS OF ALL-TIME

Rollie Fingers was an unstoppable force throughout his career, leading the league in Saves three times and games finished twice, as well as recording a sub-2.00 ERA on three separate occasions. When the team brought him in to close the game, it was the closest thing to a done deal as possible.

One thing that distinguishes him from other RP is his ability to perform in the playoffs; Fingers won the 1974 WS MVP with the A’s after pitching nine innings, recording a 1.93 ERA, and collecting a SV in two of Oakland’s four wins. Rollie Fingers was a pioneer among RP as he was the first player to ever reach 300 SV. His overall collection of records and sheer dominance during his prime makes him one of the greatest Relief Pitchers of all-time.
