From massive extensions to franchise records to walk-off winners to series equalizers, Saturday had it all with notable headlines from the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Stars are also heavily featured in this Best in Sports edition as Deshaun Watson, Mike Trout, and Nikola Jokic all had days to remember, as highlighted below.

Here is the best from September 5, 2020:

There’s been a lot of record-breaking deals this offseason but everything’s bigger in Texas as Deshaun Watson secured a mega deal to become the 2nd highest-paid player in NFL history as the former No.12 overall pick has quickly emerged as one of the top signal-callers in the NFL.

Mike Trout’s a generational player and is easily the greatest Angel to ever do it. Trout accomplished another milestone Saturday, becoming the all-time leading HR hitter in Angels history (300).

The Celtics made a mistake letting the Raptors sneak away from Game 3 with a victory. The Raptors have fully gained all the momentum in the series and are looking to come back from 0-2 to win four straight just like they did against the Bucks in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals.

Deshaun wasn’t the only star player to sign a mega-deal on Saturday as Keenan Allen and Tre-Davious White each crossed their t’s and dotted their i’s this weekend with some generational money now coming to their bank accounts. Allen is one of the best route-runners in the game, if not the best, while Tre’Davious White is arguably the second best corner in the NFL and has filled Gilmore’s shoes in Buffalo quite admirably with an All-Pro and Pro Bowl to his name already.

In what seemed to be the most lopsided matchup of the semifinals might get a little more interesting than many believed. Right from the tip, Denver’s stars showed how much this game meant as Jokic and Murray dropped 20+ points in the 1st half, something a Denver duo has never done in the playoffs during the 21st century.

Final roster cuts are a signal that the season is on the horizon. All 32 teams have shaved down their rosters to reflect a squad the organization believes has the most capabilities to win games in 2020. There were some surprising cuts, signings, extensions, and trades but it should be noted that nothing is final about these rosters until the team straps up for that Week 1 matchup.

Baseball fans witnessed plenty of walk-offs on Saturday as the Indians, Red Sox, and Twins all celebrated the win after the final at-bat while the Angels announcer also believed LA pulled off a SECOND walk-off after Rendon’s clutch shot, but they were the road team in LA’s stadium to make up for a previously postponed event.

Walk-offs are what wins games, but defensive gems are always fun to see on the highlight reel as Jo Adell and Sam Hillard brought homers back while Luis Robert made a 5-star diving grab in center.

Mike Trout’s franchise record deserves most of the glory on September 5th, but give Ronald Acuna some credit too for already breaking the Braves franchise record for leadoff HR’s with his 18th career dinger to start off a game in just his third season.

Usually a 3-HR performance wins player of the day and is one of the most prominently featured sections on the Best in Sports, but that’s how good Saturday’s slate of games were as the Joker’s dominant first half performance in Game 2 warranted player of the day honors and the many other entertaining events pushed Suarez’s spectacular performance to the No.10 slot.

B/R: Win-Loss Predictions for Every NFL Team

Most Valuable Intel: One of the biggest x-factors to this season is the Pittsburgh Steelers, or more specifically, Big Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers still managed to finish without a losing record in 2020 despite Ben’s season-ending injury in Week 2 and look to increase their success upon his return this year. Vegas set their O/U at 9.5 wins, but looking at Mike Tomlin’s track record, B/R confidently believes Pittsburgh could enter the 11-12 win stratosphere, even in a tough AFC North.
