1990: Seattle Mariners OF Ken Griffey Jr. made 1 of the most memorable catches of his career when he robbed a HR from Jesse Barfield at Yankee Stadium

1989: San Francisco Giants OF Kevin Mitchell made an unreal bare-handed catch in the outfield to steal an out from Ozzie Smith

1985: Utah Jazz C Mark Eaton set an NBA Playoff record by blocking 10 shots in a loss to the Houston Rockets. Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990 and Andrew Bynum in 2012 have tied the record but nobody has beaten it. Blocks became official in 1973-74

1983: In what’s now considered the greatest QB draft class of all-time (6 1st-rounders), Hall of Famers John Elway was drafted 1st overall by the Colts (traded to the Broncos shortly after), Jim Kelly went to Buffalo (14th), and Dan Marino was selected by Miami (27th)

1966: After 16 seasons and 9 NBA Championships, Boston Celtics HC Red Auerbach officially announced his retirement which led to Bill Russell becoming the 1st African-American HC in pro sports history
