June 9th, 2021 was highlighted by Chris Paul’s nearly flawless performance against the Nuggets in Game 2 to lead another Phoenix blowout win as they took a 2-0 series lead after protecting home court. Utah Jazz C Rudy Gobert joined an exclusive club with his third Defensive Player of the Year award as he’s claimed all three in the last four seasons.

A potential MLB play of the year took place as Seattle Mariners OF Jake Fraley robbed a walk-off HR and turned it into a double play before then collecting the game-winning RBI himself in the 11th. Phillies rookie Luke Williams had a fairy tale ending to his first career start with a walk-off HR to beat the Braves while Brock Holt’s walk-off RBI ruined Sammy Long’s sensational debut for San Francisco.

See what happened in sports on June 9th last year, headlined by RB Todd Gurley officially becoming an Atlanta Falcon and the MLB agreeing on a July 10 opening day for the 2020 season (with many other details still TBD). This daily sports article includes real headlines only (no clickbait rumors), all of the best highlights, interesting facts from around the NFL, NBA, & MLB, the main games to watch, top performances of the day, notable birthdays, and a quick recap of significant events on this day in sports history.
