1996: The 76ers take the clear-cut #1 pick, Georgetown PG Allen Iverson, while the Charlotte Hornets drafted a lesser-known high school prospect, SG Kobe Bryant, with the 13th overall pick; Kobe was traded to the Lakers a few days later. Other notables include Stephon Marbury (4th), Ray Allen (5th), Peja Stojakovic (14th), & Steve Nash (15th)

1994: Twins OF Kirby Puckett recorded his 2,088th career hit, passing Rod Carew as the franchise’s all-time leader

1981: PG Magic Johnson signed a 25-year, $25 million deal with Los Angeles Lakers just 2 years into his career

1935: Pirates OF Lloyd Waner set an MLB record with 18 putouts from center field in a single game
