On July 18th, 2001, Stephon Marbury was traded to the Phoenix Suns exactly 21 years ago, making it a great time to look at all of the remarkable records and historic achievements that he has to his name.

Stephon Marbury was drafted fourth overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, who traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal for Ray Allen. Marbury played in the NBA for 15 seasons and established himself as a valuable contributor for a variety of teams due to his play-making, passing, and scoring abilities.

The Brooklyn native chose to attend Georgia Tech after being listed as one of the top five recruits in the 1995 recruiting class, alongside his future teammate and NBA All-Star, Kevin Garnett. Marbury, who earned the nickname “Starbury” in his youth basketball days, quickly became a Yellow Jackets legend, pairing up with future NBA players like Matt Harpring and Drew Barry. NBA teams highly sought out the 6’2 floor general due to his offensive talent and ability to help make other players around him better.

“Starbury” added instant value to the Timberwolves franchise and was named to the 1997 NBA All-Rookie Team. He spent two seasons with Minnesota before being traded to the New Jersey Nets after contract extension issues. In New Jersey, Marbury was named to his first NBA All-Star team and became a fan favorite for Nets fans. Coney Island’s Finest found his way to the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, and Boston Celtics after that and added value to each franchise with impressive records that cemented his NBA greatness.
