Entering a game that seemed like it would be a clear blowout win for the Steelers quickly changed as the Bengals took a huge 17-0 lead into halftime. Cincy’s upset over the Steelers gave confidence to other AFC playoff teams, as it exposed weakness in Mike Tomlin’s team. While the Bengals were finally happy to break the streak of beatdown by Pittsburgh, if the Steelers do hope to bounce back on their feet, it would have to be on the back of T.J. Watt who is having an all-time phenomenal season in the Steel City.
Tonight was the third time in #MNF history a team with 10+ losses beat a team with 10+ wins, and it's the 2nd such win for the @Bengals (also beat the 11-2 Rams in 1978). The other Monday Night game of that kind was in 2004, a one-point win by Miami vs. New England. #SeizeTheDEY
Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl hopes are falling off a cliff after losing to the Bengals.
The 2020 Steelers are the 1st team in NFL history to lose multiple games in which they entered with 11+ wins and their opponent entered with 4 or fewer wins
Lost to @WashingtonNFL (4-7) in Week 13 and the @Bengals (2-10-1) tonight
The Steelers are the 17th team in NFL history to start a season 11-0 or better.
They are just the 3rd team among that group to lose 3 straight games immediately following an 11-0 or better start, alongside the 1969 Rams and 2009 Saints.
Cincinnati Bengals have been taken advantage of by the Steelers for years in the AFC North, but they finally broke the streak on MNF.
The #Bengals' 27-17 win over the Steelers on Monday ended their streak of 23 games (including the postseason) of scoring 21 or fewer points against Pittsburgh, which was the longest such streak for any #NFL team against another since the 1940s. https://t.co/lVvLR7nkPa
PIT had a historic first half against the Bengals on MNF, but it wasn’t a historically good one. The case can be made it was the worst 30 minutes of football Big Ben has ever played.
The Steelers essentially had their worst 1st half of offense with Ben Roethlisberger as their starting QB.
In addition to setting new lows in pass yards & yards/play, they matched their fewest 1st downs and most TO in a first half with Big Ben as their starter. pic.twitter.com/2UoFR4G8yH
Steelers in the 1st half: 0 points, 2 1st downs, 3 turnovers
Shutout with a 17+ point deficit by the Bengals in the 1st half for the first time since Week 6, 1980 — back when HOF Chuck Noll was the head coach and HOF Terry Bradshaw was at QB
