‘The Best in Sports’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the best highlights, facts, and stories going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened yesterday here.
On the last day of the first week of 2020, it was a flashback to the 2010s with three former All-Stars all putting up big performances and delivering clutch buckets. For Carmelo, it also happened to be his best game of the season where he set his season-high of 28 PTS.
After a five-game winning streak, OKC was on the cusp of losing their second game in a row, until Chris Paul turned into a hero and came up big down the stretch to lead OKC to the win in OT.
Derrick Rose continues to deliver in big moments for this young Pistons team. He came through once again in Cleveland to cap off another impressive performance in a season where he’s more efficient and effective on a per-minute basis than he’s ever been in his career, including his 2010-11 MVP season.
Derrick Rose floats it in to put Detroit ahead for good!
Matt Rhule was the hottest college name in the Coaching search this year and used that leverage to land a lofty contract that already puts him above every NFL coach besides five. Five that all have Super Bowl rings.
Matt Rhule, the new rookie head coach for the Carolina Panthers, will be the sixth-highest-paid coach in the NFL next year. The five above him all have Super Bowl rings. https://t.co/39BC3BgZCb
The New York Giants were the first team Bill Belichick won a Super Bowl with as the DC under Bill Parcells in 1986 & 1990. His influence still reigns supreme in the Big Apple as the G-Men hired Belichick’s ST Coordinator/WR Coach after the 8x Super Bowl Champion gave a glowing review.

Bill Belichick’s comments on Joe Judge from back in July read like a letter of recommendation. Said Judge “could probably coach any position on the field.” pic.twitter.com/3PhBKoTv3B
Blake Griffin’s had an awful 2019-20 season by his standards, and it’s been one derailed by a knee injury he unfortunately never recovered from after offseason surgery. He now has to get surgery again and will be out indefinitely, with his season now in question.

Andre Drummond made his presence felt early with a double-double in the 1st quarter. He finished the game in rare air thanks to another 20-20 performance, the first 20-20 game of the 2020s.
Andre Drummond (23p, 20r) notched his 6th 20 PT/20 REB game of the season – making it his 3rd season with at least 6 such games. Since 1976-77, only 4 other players have done this in 3+ seasons: Moses Malone (7), Dwight Howard (4), Hakeem Olajuwon (3), & Shaquille O’Neal (3). pic.twitter.com/gmWhhhVdYo
Devin Booker now has 77 career 30-point games, the 3rd most by a guard before turning 24 in NBA history and just 1 behind Michael Jordan for the 2nd most.
Booker, who turns 24 on Oct. 30, 2020, could ostensibly pass Oscar Robertson (102) for the most all-time. pic.twitter.com/qXvVCOukhl
The numbers for Devin Booker of the @Suns over his last 7 games:
34.7 PPG .548 FG% .928 FT%
In the last 30 years, the only other NBA player to match or exceed each of those numbers over a 7-game span was Dwyane Wade from February 18 to March 2, 2009.#RisePHX
#PlayerOfTheDay Chris Paul came in the clutch when OKC needed him the most. He finished the game recording 28 pts with 20 of them coming in the 4th Qtr & OT where he got bucket after bucket down the stretch. His 105 “clutch” points this season leads the NBA https://t.co/Y7owUK0aqN
