Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB draft, Anthony Rizzo spent 3 years playing in the farm system before being traded to the Padres as part of a package that sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox. Rizzo had a rough rookie season in San Diego and was traded to the Cubs where he would play 87 games in 2012, batting .285. In 2014, Rizzo started to take off and became an All-Star for the first time in his career, also ending the season in the top 10 NL MVP voting.

From 2014 to 2017, Rizzo recorded at least 30 HR and 100 RBIs on his way to three All-Star games, two top-five NL MVP finishes, and the 2016 Golden Glove and Silver Slugger awards. 2016 proved to be his best year as he led the Cubs to the World Series against the Indians where they won after extra innings in seven games, breaking the Cubs historic 108-year drought. On July 29, 2021, Rizzo was traded to the Yankees in part of a rebuilding plan by the Cubs but his legacy was already cemented as the best Cubs 1B ever.

ANTHONY RIZZO WILL BE REMEMBERED AS THE GREATEST CUBS 1B OF ALL-TIME

Anthony Rizzo was the heart and soul of the legendary 2016 Cubs teams that came back from a 3-1 series deficit to break the 108-year World Series drought. That alone is enough for him to always be remembered in Chicago, but that is far from everything he accomplished during his 10-year tenure in the Windy City.

Recording five straight top-20 NL MVP finishes, including back-to-back fourth place finishes, three straight All-Star selections, and leading the league in games played in 2015 is just the start of Rizzo’s impressive resume. On top of that, Rizzo leads all Cubs 1B in career HR, is second in career RBIs, PAs, and Runs, and is third in career Hits & OPS. Anthony Rizzo’s leadership along with his Cubs 1B ranks cements him as the greatest Cubs 1st Basemen of all-time.
