Christy Mathewson made his MLB debut at age-19 in the year 1900, going 0-3 on the mound his rookie year. From 1903-1905, he recorded at least 30 Wins, and also won the triple crown in 1905 after leading the league with 31 Wins, a 1.28 ERA, and 206 Ks. Christy Mathewson was the most dominant SP of his time, recording 20+ Wins in 12 consecutive seasons and leading the league in Ks five times.

In 1905, Mathewson put on the greatest World Series display in history after throwing three complete game shutouts while recording 18 strikeouts. His performance is still viewed today as one of the most dominant championship outings in SPORTS history, not just baseball. Mathewson retired in 1916 after 17 seasons, ending his career with 373 Wins and 2,507 Ks while setting plenty of Giants franchise and MLB records in the process to solidify himself as one of the greatest pitchers ever.

CHRISTY MATHEWSON WAS 1 OF THE GREATEST PITCHERS OF ALL TIME

Christy Mathewson was the only SP that showed he could dominate the game the way that Cy Young had been doing at the time. In some ways, Mathewson was a better strikeout pitcher than Young ever was, as Young only eclipsed 200+ SO twice, a feat Mathewson recorded five times.

Pitching is more than just getting punch outs of course as Mathewson has also recorded a sub 2.00 ERA five times in his career, two of which he won the triple crown. Mathewson may not have the innings pitched or complete games like Cy Young or Walter Johnson, but his pure dominance, and his ability to do so in the playoffs makes Christy Mathewson one of the best SP of his generation and one of the greatest pitchers of all-time to this day.
