The 10th spot in the West got a little more interesting on Thursday night. Golden State fell on the road in Minnesota despite 37 points from Steph Curry, and New Orleans topped the struggling OKC squad to close the gap to three games. Tim Hardaway Jr. balled out for Dallas and picked up the slack without Luka Doncic, as they pulled away late from Detroit to pick up the road win.

Houston pulled off the biggest upset of the day in a win over Milwaukee. Kevin Porter Jr. dropped a career-high 50 points along with 11 assists to boost the Rockets to victory. Michael Porter Jr. had 23 points for Denver in their win over Toronto, and has really stepped up in the absence of Jamal Murray. Kevin Durant had a season-high 42 points, including 22 in the third quarter for Brooklyn on their way to dominant win over Indiana.

Here are the best NBA highlights, facts, performers, and takeaways from April 29th, 2021:

NBA TOP PERFORMERS

KEVIN PORTER JR.’S DEVELOPMENT WILL DICTATE HOUSTON’S FUTURE OUTLOOK

The Houston Rockets are dead last in the league this year and have made it clear they are in full rebuild mode. They have recently parted ways with their head coach, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Victor Oladipo, among others. Houston came to the conclusion that these players would not make them championship contenders, and have the future in mind.

One of their key pieces moving forward is 20-year-old Kevin Porter Jr., who is coming off a career-high 50-point performance in a win over Milwaukee. KPJ actually played 15 games in the G-league this year and has only been featured 22 times this season for Houston. He got the call-up after dominating the G-league with 24.1 points per game.

Porter Jr. is the youngest player in NBA history to reach the 50-point, 10-assist mark. Averaging 15.2 points per game this season for a poor Houston squad has proven that he can be a force in this league for some time to come. The USC product has showcased his potential as an offensive focal point, and Houston will want to keep him a part of their squad for as long as they can. KPJ will be an important building block for Houston as his continued development will dictate their future outlook.
