BOSTON’S PLAYOFF HOPES HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR AFTER JAYLEN BROWN’S INJURY
The Boston Celtics announced on Monday that Jaylen Brown will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ligament in his left wrist. There is currently no timetable for his return, but the organization has already dealt with this procedure this year. Romeo Langford had the same issue in September and wasn’t able to return until five and a half months later. If the same timetable is given for Brown, he can be expected back in late October, which is right around when the next season will begin.
Brown was having a breakout All-Star season for Boston, averaging career-highs in PPG (24.7), APG (3.4), SPG (1.2), BPG (0.6), FG% (48.4), and 3P% (39.7), among other things. He was rewarded with his first All-Star Game and was key for the team’s stretches of success when they had them. Alongside Jayson Tatum, the Young Jay’s were developing into a formidable duo that could put up 50 points between the two of them on any given night and had shown flashes of one day becoming the best duo in Boston history.
This is a huge blow to Boston because they had upset potential in the first round. They are a team that has proven they can win playoff series in recent years with multiple Eastern Conference Finals appearances, while many of the squads at the top of their conference have not. It is a rare season where anything could happen, but without Brown, these hopes of upsetting a team are gone, and even making it out of the play-in tournament could be a challenge as BOS’ playoff hopes will now have to wait until next year.
