Many NFL fans looked at this Thursday Night Football game like a preseason game; a ton of backups starting with very few notable starters playing. The Denver Broncos and New York Jets both came into Week 4 with 0-3 records to begin their abysmal starts to the 2020 season. Both teams have dealt with significant injuries – the Broncos lost LB Von Miller before the season even began and their starting QB Drew Lock in Week 2, while RB Le’Veon Bell and just about every single Jets WR has gone down with some sort of injury for NY. This game proved to be a true test of which team had a deeper depth chart and could overcome roster deficits better, and that team was the Denver Broncos, who came away late in the 4th quarter to win 37-28.

Broncos rookie WR Jerry Jeudy did his best Randy Moss impression on this incredible catch for his first career NFL TD. If anything, this is proof that Jeudy has the potential to live up to the hype around him and possibly become an elite WR one day.

Jets QB Sam Darnold proved his mobility as a quarterback and swerved through the Jets D on this nice 46-yd TD run. A lot of people wrote off Darnold as a QB that wouldn’t last in the NFL, but he certainly looked like a quarterback that could have a long successful career if he continues to make plays like this.

Down by just two points, the Jets had a chance to get the ball back with two minutes left and three timeouts remaining. Broncos RB Melvin Gordon put to bed any chance of this happening as he took the ball 43 yards for a TD following the two-minute warning to put the icing on the cake for the Broncos’ first win of the 2020 season.

The Broncos defense made several key stops in the 4th quarter that helped them secure the win over the Jets. Chubb had 2.5 sacks himself in this game where he matched up against the 2020 11th overall pick Mekhi Becton and later his replacement after Becton re-injured his shoulder.

Jets CB Pierre Desir took advantage of a pair of throwing mistakes by QB Brett Rypien, keeping his toes in bounds on an impressive INT and taking another one to the house for a Pick 6.

Both QBs put their throwing skills on display and showed signs that they can ball in the league, dropping in a couple of nice dimes.

Only one team would emerge from this game with their first win of the season and that team was the Denver Broncos, winning 37-28 in a back-and-forth head-butting with the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Broncos QB Brett Rypien, a 2020 UDFA, was able to carry his team to a win despite throwing three INTs.

Sam Darnold kept his team in contention the entire game, but his offensive line could not protect him in the fourth quarter and the Jets D finally collapsed in the final two minutes when they allowed RB Melvin Gordon to run 43 yards for a game-sealing TD for the Broncos. Denver is now a little more optimistic heading forward while the now 0-4 Jets’ woes continue as their season goes into a tailspin and tensions within the organization continue to grow.
