Stephen Piscotty was the hero of the day thanks to ANOTHER 9th-inning Grand Slam to either tie the game or take the lead, just the second player ever to do that multiple times in the same season. Bryce Harper hit the only walk-off of the night while the rest of today’s must-see videos include moonshots, defensive gems, and clutch dingers.
Enjoy the best highlights from Friday’s MLB action all in one place:
Down four runs in the 9th inning, the Oakland A’s only had a 0.9% chance of winning, but nobody told Stephen Piscotty as the clutch OF delivered again with a second Grand Slam in the 9th inning to either tie a game or win a game this season. He’s only the second player ever to do that.
Bryce Harper will get credited with the walk-off base hit, but really Roman Quinn was the one that made it happen thanks to his great slide at the plate to get under the tag for the win.
As good as Roman Quinn’s dive was to win the game, Nationals Catcher Yan Gomes had an even more impressive slide at second base when he avoided the tag by switching legs in the middle of his slide.
Christian Yelich and Cody Bellinger were the two premier NL MVP candidates last year as they battled it out all season long until Yelich’s season-ending injury. The 2018 MVP has struggled mightily thus far in the 2020 season but is starting to come around while the 2019 MVP hasn’t looked like himself this season either, yet now has his first multi-HR game under his belt in over a year. This could be the turning point for two of the best players in the game.
From Kike Hernandez’s miraculous stop and throw at second base to Javy Baez gunning the runner at first from left field, Friday night certainly didn’t lack gold glove-caliber plays from infielders.
Lance Lynn pitched the 3rd Complete Game of the 2020 season (Kyle Hendriks and Dylan Bundy) as he didn’t allow a single hit after the 1st inning. He also received some great defensive help from his center fielder.
The reigning 2019 AL Rookie of the Year winner hasn’t suited up one time this season, but made his season debut on Friday and wasted NO time putting on an encore as he cranked one out in his first at-bat of the season.
No player in baseball has gotten off to a more surprising MVP-caliber start to the season than Nicholas Castellanos who’s now raked eight total dingers in just his first 20 games of the season. He’s gone from sleeper MVP candidate to one of the league’s favorites now, while his outfield battery mate has officially caught fire with a fifth HR in as many days and a ridiculous .350+ batting average in 2020.
