September 14th, 2020 will forever be cemented as the day Kyle Lewis made a Catch of the Year candidate by getting UP for a gracious Grand Slam robbery. Lewis’ spectacular save was supplemented by a couple of walk-offs, phenomenal pitching performances on the mound, and a pimped homer off of Kershaw.
Enjoy the best highlights from Monday’s MLB action all in one place:
With less than two weeks left in the 2020 season, many media publications will begin to come out with their annual awards, best plays, top moments, etc. No need to search for the Catch of the Year beyond this sensational grab by Kyle Lewis to take a Grand Slam away from the division leaders.
Kyle Lewis wasn’t the only rookie to make headlines on Monday as Reds prospect Tyler Stephenson also made a name for himself as a pinch-hitter for David Bell’s squad, belting a walk-off 2-run blast to beat Pittsburgh with one swing of the bat.
A double-header matchup by two contending NL Central clubs came down to the wire in both games. In a back-to-back that was supposed to be only 7 innings each, both got extended for some extra baseball. Keston Hiura helped Milwaukee claim Game 1 with a walk-off sac fly while Paul Dejong contributed to the Cardinals retribution in Game 2 with a clutch knock in the 9th.
While the two NL Central clubs above battled it out in a double-header, this White Sox-Twins matchup was their single event on Monday and Adam Engel made sure to take advantage with a slash bunt RBI in the 8th inning for the go-ahead run in a tightly contested encounter. Chicago is now 2.0 games up in the division and owns the best record in the American League.
Monday featured three pitching performances that stood out above the rest with some of the usual suspects as the culprits. NL Cy Young candidate Trevor Bauer continues to set Reds records while Dinelson Lamet neutralized the best team in baseball, and Mike Minor was determined to earn his first win in an A’s uniform.
Clayton Kershaw was absolutely dealing against San Diego as he was into the sixth inning without allowing a single run… until Trent Grisham stepped up. The 23-year-old OF seized the opportunity of delivering a dinger against the greatest pitcher of this generation by watching it fly in style in a signature #LetTheKidsPlay moment.
