This day in sports history was a big one for Major League Baseball’s American League. Over in Boston, the Minnesota Twins set a record  by pulling off two incredible defensive plays in a game against the Red Sox. Meanwhile, at Yankees Stadium, two-sport rivals Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders faced off in a thriller that involved four home runs and an unfortunate injury between the two dual-sport superstars.

  • Minnesota Twins became the very 1st team to successfully turn 2 triple plays during a single game on July 17, 1990
  • Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders dueled as Bo hit 3 HR and Sanders scored an inside-the-park HR on July 17, 1990

WILD DAY IN THE MLB FEATURED EPIC NFL DUEL & TRIPLE PLAY RECORD

The Minnesota Twins pulled off something spectacular in 1990 against the Red Sox. One of the most exciting defensive plays in baseball, and one of the rarest, is recording all three outs in an inning during one single play. Against all odds, Minnesota became the first-ever team in MLB history to pull off two in the same game. Despite the historical performance on defense, their offense failed to meet the same standard and the Twins lost the game to Boston 1-0.

On that same day, NFL/MLB rivals Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders took each other on at the biggest stage in baseball: Yankees Stadium. Jackson knocked out three home runs during the game which his Kansas City Royals ended up winning 10-7. Sanders, however, provided the game’s top highlight. He launched a ball into Jackson’s vicinity, who dove into the air only to miss the catch and ended up injuring himself. Sanders sprinted around the bases to earn an amazing inside-the-park home run.
