A CHICAGO-CHICAGO BLOCKBUSTER HAD MAJOR RIPPLE EFFECTS FOR YEARS TO COME
Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Chase both began their careers in 2019, two years following the trade. Their presence provided the White Sox with a foundation to build up their future after a decade-long playoff drought. They finally reached the postseason in 2020, falling to the Oakland Athletics in the 2-1 in the American League Wild Card series, and appear to be well on their way to have a longstanding presence.
On the other side of the trade, Jose Quintana helped the Chicago Cubs secure the three-seed in the 2017 playoffs. They fought their way to the NLCS but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. Quintana was consistently above-average but never recaptured his Cy Young-caliber stuff that he had in 2016 pre-trade. After three and a half years with the Cubs, Quintana departed in free agency, signing with the Los Angeles Angels making the White Sox clear winners of the Chicago-Chicago blockbuster deal.
