The 2019 Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees boasted two of the most lethal lineups in the history of the game. They rank one and two respectively on the list of most home runs recorded by a team in a single season. When these powerhouses inevitably clashed on this day in 2019, the ensuing battle panned out to be among the best matchups of the year as they combed for 26 total runs over a five-hour-long extra-innings thriller.

  • Yankees and Twins played a 10-inning slugfest full of highlights and lead changes late in the game on July 23, 2019
  • 2019 Yankees broke the all-time MLB record with their 28th consecutive game hitting a HR
  • Minnesota Twins set an MLB record for HRs in a season (307) in 2019, with Yankees falling just 1 HR short (306)

YANKEES AND TWINS BATTLED IT OUT IN THE 2019 GAME OF THE YEAR

Domingo German and Kyle Gibson took the mound in the first inning but were both pulled after putting up poor performances. By the ninth, the Yankees had rebounded from an 8-2 deficit to pull within one. New York proceeded to plate two runs thanks to Aaron Hicks’ 2-run HR. Minnesota answered with one run of their own to push the game into extra innings. New York then put up two more runs in the 10th, which Minnesota proved unable to match. The Yankees secured the win on a diving catch by Hicks with the bases loaded.
