PSO’s original Scouting Reports strive to be uniquely valuable in evaluating a player’s future outlook by focusing on the four main subjects that summarize a player’s likelihood of succeeding at the next level including: natural Physical Tools, College Game Film, proven Production, and overall Risk that each individual player presents to a team drafting him. Pros

  • Sky-high upside with a truly incredible athletic profile
  • Permanently moved to LT in 2019 — flipped back and forth since freshman season
  • Vast improvement across the board from 2018
  • Immediate mauler – would likely step in day-1 and be an above-average run blocker

Cons

  • Adjustment from Louiville’s zone run-dominant scheme to the NFL will take time
  • Limited true Pass protection opportunities
  • With limited opportunities @Louisville, pass protection is a work in progress
  • Raw overall technique — typically wins by physically overwhelming opponents

Grade: B

There is no doubt that Mekhi Becton had one of the most impressive Combine performances in recent memory. His truly amazing 5.11s 40 time at 364 lbs has skyrocketed him to OT1 according to several analysts, but there are a lot of questions to his game that the others don’t have.

Obviously, the size and athletic profile are a fantastic starting point. He routinely forklifts 270-pound grown men that are actively fighting him out their cleats — not something seen every day. He is, however, still relatively close to that starting point.

While improving dramatically after finally finding a home at LT in 2019, Becton is quite raw in most facets of his game. He didn’t face the greatest EDGE talent in the world and lacks experience in a true dropback passing offense (which unlike College, is almost every NFL team). His natural power and mobility are off the charts, however, as Becton will simply need good O-Line coaching in order to reach the ceiling he’s capable of.

Pro Comp: OT Trent Brown (Las Vegas Raiders)

Projected Round: Mid-1st round

Prime Destinations: CLE, NYJ, TB, DEN, MIA

OVERALL Grade: B+
