‘The Best in Sports’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the best highlights, facts, and stories going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened yesterday here.
For the 2nd time in his career, Rodney Hudson will sign a contract making him the highest paid Center in the NFL. He wasn’t the only starting Center that inked a long-term deal on Friday though.
Among the Raiders horrid O-Line in 2018, Hudson was the bright spot as one of the best Centers in the NFL and has officially lived up to his monster 5yr/$44.5M contract from 4 years ago. Now that he’ll be 31 years old when the extension kicks in, it’s likely he won’t be as elite
Ben Jones gives Tennessee it’s 3rd starting OL locked up for the next 3 years. 3rd Rd Pick Nate Davis is expected to step into the starting RG spot in the near future & Jack Conklin could be re-signed at RT to keep the Titans’ top-tier O-Line intact pic.twitter.com/E0dRUEkvpk
Eric Gordon has been a reliable 3rd piece for Houston and will keep the Rockets’ powerful starting lineup intact for at least the next two seasons.
Houston now has it’s entire starting lineup under contract through the next 2 years. Eric Gordon is their 3rd playmaker & a reliable scoring option. He avg 16.2 PPG in 31.7 MPG on 40.9/36.0/78.3 percent shooting in ’18-19. Houston has a top tier starting lineup going forward pic.twitter.com/iSBdskbUQm
After the Nats bullpen blew the lead in the 9th (what’s new), Anthony Rendon stepped up in the bottom half of the inning with the walk-off hit.
Anthony Rendon comes through again for the win. Nats are 2.5 games up for the 1st WC spot. It’ll be tough for any team to come into Nats Park and overcome Scherzer likely taking the bump #OnePursuithttps://t.co/F7N1DEGCrs
As NFL teams slim their roster down to the required 53, plenty of trades, releases, IR placements, and other moves will be made this week. Here are the most significant from Friday:
UPDATE: San Francisco 49ers will place RB Jerick McKinnon on the IR for the 2nd straight season w/ knee issues. He could be eligible to return this time if placed on IR after making the initial 53-man roster https://t.co/F5bBiCizRU
Iloka will look to join his 4th team in the past 13 months. 6th Rd S Donovan Wilson has earned his spot on the roster as one of the top rookies of the preseason. He might push Jeff Heath for the starting role next to Xavier Woods https://t.co/8LFrwUNKxHpic.twitter.com/JYbYihstmH
UPDATE: Baltimore Ravens have released former starting DL Willie Henry. The 2016 4th Rd Pick was on the last year of his rookie deal ($720K cap savings; $95.8K dead cap) https://t.co/V0bQrVT5iC
Nick Castellanos has been Chicago’s best hitter since coming over to the team at the deadline. He already has as many HRs in 27 games with Chicago as he did in 100 games with Detroit.
He’s been the best player on Chicago since joining the team on August 1st https://t.co/cL1N0mPC45
Nicholas Castellanos! With 2 HR today, he now has 11 HR in August, the most by a @Cubs player in his first calendar month with the team in franchise history.
The Kansas City Royals were one of the best teams in the league in the mid-2010’s, but have fallen to cellar in recent years. With a new ownership group coming in, maybe things will turn around sooner than later.
UPDATE: Kansas City Royals owner David Glass has agreed to sell the team to John Sherman for north of $1 Billion, marking the franchise’s 3rd ownership group since its inception in 1969 https://t.co/zZTGjcg3v8
#PlayerOfTheDay Todd Frazier added some premium insurance to the Mets lead against Philly, after entering the 8th inning on a 1-1 tie, Frazier’s 6 RBI’s all came in the 8th inning or beyond ensuring the end of the Mets 6-game losing streak https://t.co/Z5JWkMd42p
Jorge Soler is better this year than his 1st 5 years combined (at least from a HR standpoint).
Jorge Soler had 38 Home Runs in his entire 5-year career entering this season. In 2019, he has 38 HRs and counting. His next HR will set Kansas City’s single-season franchise HR record https://t.co/kmlrNh8mFS
