The NBA Offseason is fully underway with the Suns acquiring Chris Paul from the Thunder, creating one of the best Big 3’s in the league. A pair of title contenders also added key pieces, with Jrue Holiday heading to Milwaukee and Dennis Schroder going to Los Angeles. Also, Kirk Cousins finally won a Monday Night game, the MLB released its 2021 HOF Ballet, and the Padres extended Mike Clevinger while also announcing that he will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Here is all the best from November 16, 2020:

Coming off an eight-game winning streak to end their season in the bubble, the Suns acquired All-Star PG Chris Paul from the Thunder. Paul, 35, will be an excellent veteran presence and leader for one of the ascending young teams in the NBA and should form the best Big 3 in the league with Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton. He led a similarly young, but less talented OKC team to the playoffs last season and will help bring along the development of Phoenix’s other key young players.

Hoping to convince Giannis to sign his max extension instead of walk next offseason for nothing, the Bucks traded for Pelicans PG Jrue Holiday in exchange for Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, and three first-round picks. Holiday, 30, is an excellent two-way player, averaging 17.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game over his seven seasons with New Orleans and will alleviate some of the pressure off Giannis on both ends of the court.

The Lakers traded Danny Green and the 28th overall pick to the Thunder for PG Dennis Schroder. Schroder was very productive coming off the bench last season for OKC, averaging 18.9 points and 4.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc as a premier 6th Man of the Year candidate. Whether he comes off the bench or is inserted in the starting lineup, Schroder’s addition strengthens LA’s title defense aspirations.

After losing in his previous nine tries, Kirk Cousins finally won his first Monday Night Football game when the Vikings defeated the Bears 19-13. The nine-game skid was the longest losing streak in MNF history. Cousins had a solid day, completing 25-of-36 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception as he led Minnesota to their third straight victory after a horrendous 1-5 start to the season.

Trailing 7-6, Cordarrelle Patterson returned the opening kickoff of the second-half 104 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 13-7 lead. This was Patterson’s eighth career kick return touchdown, tied for the most in NFL history. However, it was not enough, as the Bears offense continued to struggle in the loss.

The MLB announced it’s 2021 Hall of Fame Ballet with no likely first-ballot players. Torii Hunter is the only player eligible this year with a chance to get in the HOF in the future. This means controversial names like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Curt Schilling have the best chance of their lives this offseason to finally break through and get that 75% vote needed to be cemented in Cooperstown forever.

In an attempt to bolster their defense, the Blazers traded for two-way forward Robert Covington. The Rockets got great value for Covington, landing Trevor Ariza, the 16th pick this year and a 2021 1st Rd Pick in a stacked draft next year. Houston just acquired Covington for Clint Capela a few months ago, which could signify a rebuild in the near future. However, Trevor Ariza’s presence in the deal still gives HOU a two-way player that fits their system and the value could’ve just been too much to pass up even if new Houston GM plans to keep Harden & Westbrook despite the reported trade requests.

The Padres re-signed Mike Clevinger to a two-year deal to cover his final two arbitration seasons before reaching free agency. However, Clevinger will miss the entire 2021 season after it was simultaneously announced that the former Indians ace will need Tommy John surgery in a strange twist of events. Clevinger went 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA with San Diego after being acquired from Cleveland midseason in a deal the Padres will ultimately regret if he ends up pitching less than a season before departing in free agency.

The Braves signed LHP Drew Smyly to a 1y/$11M deal. Smyly, who pitched for the Giants in 2020, is 35-35 in his career with a 4.13 ERA in seven seasons while dealing with a variety of injuries.

As the NBA offseason heats up, many players and teams are deciding on whether their 2020-21 contract options will get picked up or not. Spurs F DeMar DeRozan chose to opt in to his $27.7M player option. DeRozan has averaged 21.6 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.8 rebounds in his two seasons since being traded to San Antonio in the Kawhi Leonard deal.

Meanwhile, Nuggets F Jarami Grant opted out of his $9.3M player option, choosing to test free agency. Grant averaged 12.2 points and shot 38.9 percent from three in his only season in Denver in 2020, meaning he’s likely to land a deal closer to $12-$16M AAV on the market.

Most Valuable Intel: Daniel Jones went from underrated to overrated to now underrated again

Because the Giants are 3-7, Daniel Jones isn’t getting any credit, despite the fact that New York is competitive in almost every game. When kept clean in the pocket, Jones has a 90.3 PFF passing grade this season, good for ninth in the NFL and his 93.1 grade against the Eagles in Week 10 ranked #1. He has also been effective when throwing 10+ yards downfield, ranking fifth in that category in 2020. He also leads the NFL in adjusted CMP% on those throws at 74.5. While the numbers may not reflect it, Jones has improved this year, despite a lack of talent around him.
