While the World Series would presumably dominate the headlines in sports, Kyrie Irving’s spectacular 50-pt performance overrides the Nats blowout Game 2 victory. If his Game-Winner attempt was a few inches to the left, it might’ve been one of the most memorable moments in all of 2019. With or without the GW, Kyrie’s legendary Nets debut will go down as the Best in Sports on October 23rd.
🚨 New NBA Record 🚨
Kyrie Irving drops 50 Points the most ever in a players’ team debut!
Those who didn’t watch the game will assume the Nats dominated the Astros in Game 2, based on the 12-3 final score. However, going into the 7th inning, it was tied 2-2. Kurt Suzuki’s solo shot off Verlander essentially ended his day with his Astros trailing. Right after, the Nats kept getting on base, putting the ball in play, and good things happened. Now the Nats have a commanding 2-0 series lead with 3 upcoming home games (if necessary).
The Nationals are the first team to win the first two games of a World Series on the road since the 1999 Yankees.

Justin Verlander became the all-time postseason leader in strikeouts on Wednesday, but also now owns the worst record of any SP in World Series history.
Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander are the first duo of 20-game winners to lose Games 1-2 of a #WorldSeries since the Dodgers’ Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax in 1965.
Al Horford facing his old team was the big story going into this game, but these two teams have a lot of new faces, despite reaching the 2nd round of the Playoffs last year. Game 1 of 82 might’ve showed how far these two teams are from each other with their new rosters.
David Ross was a leader in the clubhouse for the World Series winning Cubs in 2016, and retired from his playing career soon after. Three years later, and he’s now the Manager of the historic ball club.
Josh Gordon was placed on the IR, but seemed surprised of the news as he appears ready to play in a couple weeks. His future is now up in the air once again.
#PlayerOfTheDay Kyrie Irving was a few inches away from having unquestionably the greatest team debut in NBA history. Despite the missed GW in OT, he had the most pts of ANY player debuting with a new team & is the 1st player to EVER put up 50 pts, 8 reb, 7 ast w/ 0 TOV https://t.co/mFPyKYnFwo
