Saturday nights NBA action was full of blowouts, however, that didn’t stop it from being filled with huge individual performances and some ridiculous highlights. Gary Trent Jr. has already made a name for himself in his short time with the Raptors and is showing All-Star potential after as his latest performance that saw him go for a career-high 44 points in Toronto’s win over Cleveland. Kyrie Irving added to his career highlight reel of fancy finishes with another one vs. the Lakers, Enes Kanter had a historic night on the boards, and PSO released its scouting report on future stud WR Rashod Bateman.

Here is the best of the day from April 10, 2021:

Gary Trent Jr. recorded a career-high 44 PTS in incredibly efficient night

With Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry, and Fred VanVleet out with injuries, Raptors SG Gary Trent Jr. put on a show for Toronto in their blowout 135-115 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Trent finished with a career-high 44 points on a ridiculously efficient 17-of-19 from the field and 7-of-9 from 3.

Now out of the shadow of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum and able to take (and make) more shots, Trent has come into his own in Toronto. In nine games since being acquired from Portland at the trade deadline, he is averaging career-highs in nearly every category, including FG (6.9) and FGA (15.0), as well as MIN (33.3), PTS (17.9), and FG% (45.9). Trent looks like he could be a potential cornerstone for Toronto to build around as the team transitions to the likely post-Kyle Lowry era this offseason.

GARY TRENT JR. IS SHOWING ALL-STAR POTENTIAL SINCE JOINING THE RAPTORS

Gary Trent Jr. was traded from Portland to Toronto along with Rodney Hood in exchange for Norman Powell on NBA trade deadline day, and ever since his move, he has been balling for the Raptors. In Saturday night’s matchup with Cleveland, Trent Jr. dropped a career-high 44 points and shot an astounding 17-19 from the field, including 7-9 from beyond the arc and 3-3 from the FT line. Not only did he lead the team in scoring, but he had the highest +/- of anyone who saw the court that night.

The Duke product is now averaging 22.0 PPG over his last six games with Toronto, as he adds more breakout performances to his resume that began during last year’s run in the bubble. He’s gained the trust of his new team already, and takes a high percentage of the Raptors’ shots, which is harder to do with guys like Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum in Portland. He also hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat DC a few games back.

The promise he has shown with his new team proves that Trent Jr. has a higher ceiling than some may have thought. With the way that he has been playing in Toronto, it’s not unreasonable to picture him as an All-Star in the near future. The Raps are a well-coached team, and the guy taking their big shots and providing that scoring punch has full capability of possibly reaching All-Star status in the near future. It is a matter of consistency and continued improvement now to see if he can accomplish such lofty goals.
