Dodgers-Padres have a thrilling Game 1 to start their highly-anticipated season series
The most anticipated matchup in baseball did not disappoint. Widely considered as the top two teams entering the 2021 season, the Dodgers and Padres battled it out in the first of 19 games, as the newest rivalry in sports saw LA outlast SD 11-6 after scoring five runs in the 12th inning.
LAD got contributions across the lineup, including Corey Seager, who’s leadoff homer in the 12th opened up the decisive five-run onslaught in the final frame while David Price earned the win for the Dodgers. Price has been exactly what LA needed in the bullpen thus far this season. This was the Dodgers’ seventh-straight win, as they continued the greatest start ever (12-2) to a season by a defending World Series champion.
Meanwhile, in his first game back after missing 10 days with a shoulder injury, Fernando Tatis Jr. blasted a 410-foot homer in the fifth inning to give San Diego a 2-1 lead. The lead was short-lived though, as the two clubs went back-and-forth the entire night. The Padres had plenty of chances to win the game, but the defending champs seemed to always have an answer, as San Diego fell to 9-6 on the season.
