The ‘Best of the Day’ is a daily PSO original series showcasing the most significant stories, highlights, and facts going on in the land of the NFL, NBA, & MLB every day. Get a recap on EVERYTHING that happened on 6/6 here

The first Game 7 of the NBA Playoffs did not disappoint as Luka Doncic scored 46 in a loss to the Clippers where Kawhi Leonard was one assist short of a triple-double. There was also a Game 1 thriller between the 76ers and Hawks, where Trae Young and Joel Embiid both had 35+ point games in a battle won by Atlanta. The Tennessee Titans acquired Julio Jones by trading away two future draft picks. June 6th also marks the 20th anniversary of the iconic AI step-back over Tyronn Lue in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals.

Here is the best of the day from June 6, 2021:

Tennessee Titans agreed to acquire 7x Pro Bowl WR Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons

After a season where Julio Jones didn’t play in seven games due to injury, he was traded to Tennessee along with a 2023 sixth-round pick for a 2022 second-round and a 2023 fourth-round pick. This acquisition allows the Titans to bolster their already powerful offense with Ryan Tannehill under center and Derrick Henry in the backfield.

Jones joins A.J. Brown to create one of the best receiver duos in the league. The best part of this deal for the Titans is that they didn’t have to forfeit a first-round pick. As for the Falcons, they can focus on developing their young receivers like Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage, while they rebuild their defense with the picks they out of the trade.

EXPERIENCE IS KEY IN WINNER-TAKE-ALL GAMES WITH EVERYTHING ON THE LINE

The 2021 NBA Playoffs finally had its first Game 7, and it was the most experienced team who prevailed. The LA Clippers defended their home court (the only time either team did so all series), winning by 15 after pulling away in the second half. Luka Doncic had another great game with 46 points, but most of those came in the first quarter (29). He cooled off in the second half, which proved to be costly, and showed a lack of experience. Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Marcus Morris all had over 20 points in what was far from their first winner-take-all game.

In a win-or-go-home playoff game, teams want to have experience on their side, and it was something Dallas lacked that LA had plenty of. Of the Mavericks starters in Game 7, only Tim Hardaway Jr. had won a playoff series, but did not start a single game in the one series he won. The Clippers have an NBA champion in Kawhi Leonard, and he stepped up in both elimination games, displaying his wealth of experience in those moments which helped him deliver when it mattered most, as he’s been there before.

George has been to two Eastern Conference Finals, Morris has been to one, and Nicolas Batum had started 32 postseason games before Sunday’s outing. When it was all on the line, the inexperienced Doncic was not as clutch as he needed to be, and the Clippers came through down the stretch. Luka had an incredible postseason and posted historic numbers but during winning time, he struggled which is something he’ll improve on as he continues to gain experience in these kind of games.
