The latest news in NFL free agency saw the Indianapolis Colts re-sign WR T.Y. Hilton to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Hilton was one of the most prolific receivers in the league for a five-year stretch in the 2010s, but has since struggled to recapture that elite form. Also, no NBA player has gone through adversity and come out of it quite like Caris LeVert, who hit the clutch dagger vs. Detroit, De’Aaron Fox balled out vs. Atlanta, and James White is the undisputed greatest receiving RB over the last seven years since entering the NFL.

Here is the best of the day from March 24, 2021:

Colts re-signed 4x Pro Bowl WR T.Y. Hilton on a 1y/$10M deal

Longtime Colts WR T.Y. Hilton will return to Indianapolis in 2021 after agreeing to a 1y/$10M deal that includes $8M in guaranteed money. The 31-year-old played in 15 games this past season, catching 56 passes for 762 yards and five touchdowns from QB Philip Rivers in his final season.

Drafted in the third round (92nd overall) by the Colts in 2012, Hilton blossomed into one of the most dangerous receivers in the league catching passes from former No.1 overall pick Andrew Luck. From 2013-2018, Hilton recorded five 1,000+ REC YD campaigns, including leading the league in 2016 with 1,448 yards. Over that span, he was named to four-consecutive Pro-Bowls (2014-2017).

In nine NFL seasons, Hilton has registered 608 receptions for 9,360 yards (15.4 AVG) and 50 touchdowns. However, since Luck retired just before the 2019 season, Hilton has struggled to produce at the levels he once did without that elite quarterback throwing him the ball. He and the Colts will be hoping that changes after the team traded for former MVP candidate Carson Wentz.

After two years of unspectacular quarterback play in Indy, the Colts believe Wentz can prove that his disastrous 2020 season was just a fluke. The Colts have a far superior roster across the board compared to the Eagles, and Hilton, even coming off back-to-back down seasons, is likely the best receiver Wentz has ever thrown to.

NO NBA PLAYER HAS OVERCOME ADVERSITY LIKE CARIS LEVERT

Caris LeVert was recently traded to the Indiana Pacers this season, when the medical team discovered a small mass on his kidney. Unfortunately, this mass turned out to be cancerous and had to be given serious medical attention. LeVert finally returned to action this month and is quickly gaining back his old form. He had a signature performance against Detroit on Wednesday with a lethal dagger step-back to seal the win against Indy’s division-rival.

LeVert has shown that he can be an efficient scorer in this league, but something always seems to get in the way. Other than the cancerous kidney mass, LeVert was sidelined in 2018 with a right foot dislocation and fell to #20 in the draft because of knee injuries. He’s shown signs that he can be a prolific scorer but is constantly set back. The way he continues to battle through adversity and always comes back to find success is a testament to the kind of player he is, and more importantly, the kind of person he is.

The trade to Indiana might finally be the opportunity LeVert needed to showcase his entire skillset. He is now in a similar situation that Victor Oladipo was in with Indiana. He’s a starting guard who can go get a bucket when he needs to and has put the team on his back before. Oladipo thrived in this system, even earning All-Star status, and if LeVert can stay healthy, there is strong reason to believe the 26-year-old Michigan alum can overcome adversity once again to reach that high level of success like only he has.
