Dallas and Dak Prescott finally agreed to a long-term contract
After two years of negotiating, the Dallas Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott have finally agreed to a long-term contract. Prescott signed a 4y/$160M deal with $126M guaranteed that includes a no-trade and no-tag clause. The contract also includes an NFL-record $66M signing bonus, meaning that he will earn $75M in 2021. Set to earn $40M per year, Prescott is now the second highest paid NFL player ever, behind only Patrick Mahomes‘ 10y/$450M contract with Kansas City.
Prescott was off to the best start of his career last season, averaging 371.2 YPG before suffering a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle in Week 5. He was carted off the field and taken to the hospital, where it was announced that he would miss the remainder of the season. Dallas struggled mightily without it’s franchise QB along with several other starters, limping to a 6-10 record.
Now under contract long-term and his recovery appearing to be ahead of schedule, Prescott’s future has never looked better. He is surrounded by an offense that is stacked at every skill position and an O-Line that, while not what it once was, is still good enough to help the Cowboys’ explosive offense. Most importantly, Prescott now has a chance to do what no one else has done in 25 years: lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl if they can finally stay healthy.
