The 2021 franchise tag deadline in the NFL was Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm, with a number of big names being retained by their teams for at least another year. The players who were tagged included some top WRs, multiple O-Lineman, and four players on the defensive side of the ball. Now that the deadline has passed, there are several impactful free agents on the market in the NFL. And, with no fans in attendance, it’s been proven how NBA teams have really struggled to get wins at home, more than any year in the history of the game.

Here is the best of the day from March 9, 2021:

The 2021 NFL Franchise Tag deadline saw 9 players get tagged

Several notable players were franchise tagged by their teams, highlighted by a pair of standout WRs in Chris Godwin and Allen Robinson. Godwin followed up his breakout 2019 campaign with another solid season in Tampa despite missing multiple games due to various injuries. Meanwhile, Robinson set a career-high with 102 receptions in 2020 despite some shaky QB play in Chicago.

Three offensive lineman were tagged, headlined by 4x Pro Bowler and 2020 All-Pro G Brandon Scherff staying with Washington. Meanwhile, two former 2017 second round OTs Cam Robinson and Taylor Morton will be playing their fifth seasons in Jacksonville and Carolina, respectively.

Four defenders were also tagged, led by Giants DL Leonard Williams. The 2015 No. 6 overall pick was tagged for a second consecutive season after leading New York with 11.5 sacks in 2020. A trio of safeties in Justin Simmons, Marcus Maye, and Marcus Williams were also tagged with only Williams’ tag coming on deadline day.
