DC dominated Indiana in the final East play-in game to clinch the 8 seed
At the March 25th trade deadline, the Washington Wizards had a 0.4% chance of making the postseason as they owned a disappointing 15-28 record. However, that was before Russell Westbrook TOOK OVER as the leader of the team in the locker room and the best player on the court with a triple-double damn near every night. Another huge factor in DC’s rise was the acquisition of Daniel Gafford who has significantly improved Washington’s biggest weakness: rim protection.
The Wizards played their best game of the season when it mattered most as they destroyed Indiana pretty much throughout the entire game in front of the nation’s capital. Not many people are giving the Wizards a chance against the No.1 seed Philadelphia 76ers (like most 8 seeds), but this DC squad has been on a tear in the second half of the season and sports a very respectable 17-6 record when Daniel Gafford plays, proving him to be a true difference-maker. They’ll need him and the rest of the bigs to do their best in limiting Joel Embiid while the Westbrook vs. Embiid storyline will be brought back to the forefront.
