2004: Arizona Cardinals RB Emmitt Smith scored the final TD of his legendary career, totaling a NFL-record 164 rushing TDs that still stands to this day

2002: ESPN2 aired a high school basketball game between St. Vincent-St. Mary’s and Oak Hill featuring none other than an 18-year-old LeBron James

1997: Former Montreal Expos SP Pedro Martinez signed a record 6-year, $69 million contract with the Boston Red Sox

1991: New Jersey Nets set an NBA record by blocking 22 shots in a win over the Denver Nuggets. The Toronto Raptors later surpassed this record in 2001 with 23 blocks

1988: Miami Heat set an NBA record by opening the season with their 17th consecutive loss

1982: “Snowplow Game”: at the end of an extremely snowy, 0-0 game, Mark Henderson — a recently-freed convict on the New England Patriots’ work release program — cleared a spot for the ball to be placed on a 33-yard FG to defeat the Miami Dolphins

1976: HOF QB “Broadway” Joe Namath played his very last game with the New York Jets

1973: The City of San Diego filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the National League that would ultimately halt the Padres’ relocation to Washington, D.C.

1971: Los Angeles Lakers won their 21st consecutive game, breaking the 1947-49 Washington Capitols’ and 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks’ former record

1967: Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks combined to have 10 players all score 20+ points, the most during a single game in NBA history

1965: Chicago Bears RB Gale Sayers tied an NFL record by scoring 6 TDs in a win over the 49ers (4 RUSH, 1 REC, 1 PR)
