The LA Clippers came in to Game 5 down 3-1 in the series, needing to win the next three games to clinch the franchise’s first ever Finals bid, and they picked up win number one on Monday night. LAC led after every quarter on the road, and got a stellar second half from Paul George, who had 30 points during that span and 41 for the whole game. DeMarcus Cousins stepped up in the absence of Ivica Zubac with 15 points in only 11 minutes. The Clips will look to force a Game 7 on Wednesday night when they return home for Game 6.

TYRONN LUE PUSHING THE RIGHT BUTTONS GIVES CLIPPERS CONFIDENCE IN A 3-1 COMEBACK

COLORS KEY | FULL CLIPPERS OUTLOOK

Down 3-1 in the series, the Clippers went on the road to face the hottest team in the NBA without their starting Center Ivica Zubac, but were still able to come out with the win, largely in part to Tyronn Lue’s great coaching. He’s been pushing all of the right buttons this season, and did so again with increasing the minutes of Marcus Morris and DeMarcus Cousins in light of Zubac’s absence. Morris had 22 points while Cousins added 15 in 11 minutes, but didn’t even play an entire minute in Game 4.

The head coaching change with Doc Rivers’ removal was huge for LA, as it got rid of someone who has been known to choke in the postseason, as he did again this year with the 76ers losing in the second round to the Hawks despite being huge favorites. Additionally, his LA Clippers blew a 3-1 lead in last year’s playoffs, but now Lue has this team playing their best with their backs against the wall. Something he’s well accustomed to from his time in Cleveland, helping orchestrate an iconic 3-1 Finals comeback
