CJ Stroud is the most well-rounded player who carries the least risk among any QB in this draft class. The Carolina Panthers hired Frank Reich and are now poised to find him his Quarterback of the future who he can groom and develop alongside as the Panthers look to get back to prominence.
Stroud didn’t show much mobility throughout his college career but that all changed during his most important game against the league’s best defense against the Georgia Bulldogs in the National Semifinals where he showed immense potential with his arm and legs.
His Kicker prevented Stroud from pulling off the biggest win of his career but the film from that game could elevate him all the way to the No.1 pick where he’ll look to fill Cam Newton‘s shoes as No.1 overall pick QBs in Carolina to reach success in the NFL.
Alabama has had a recent run of high-caliber QBs from Jalen Hurts to Tua Tagovailoa to Mac Jones to now Bryce Young who’s unquestionably better than all of them, at least when it comes to the film and down-to-down high-level play.
He might have the best film of any QB prospect ever considering his ability to make plays from within the pocket, outside the pocket, with his arms, with his legs, he has shown the ability to make any play on the football field.
And now he’ll be taking his talents to the pro level where it’s extremely rare a player of his stature (5’10, 205 lbs) finds success. Kyler Murray is the rare exception but a torn ACL has reaffirmed the belief that size matters at the QB position.
That’s really the only red flag Young has and could single-handedly cause him to “fall” to the No.2 overall pick where the Texans could add a future MVP candidate if he does in fact stay healthy.
No Quarterback prospect has ever entered the NFL draft with as much physical potential than Anthony Richardson. He has the legs to be a mobile threat every play and is also loaded with a cannon to drop bombs right over Safeties if they try to cheat on the run. His potential is sky-high and has scouts salivating over what could be.
However, there’s a reason why he isn’t a lock to go first overall considering his lackluster completion percentage, inconsistent film, and poor decision-making shown during his only year as QB1 at Florida.
Las Vegas is an exciting city and could look to add that element to their football team with an Al Davis-esque move to add speed to their skill positions and make headlines with the trade-up to the No.3 overall pick.
The Indianapolis Colts are as desperate for a franchise QB as any team in the league but it’s not due to a long drought without one. They had Peyton Manning who’s tenure ended right when Andrew Luck fell into their laps but his premature retirement has led to a four-year absence of a long-term solution at the most important position in sports.
It seems inevitable after the Colts didn’t address the position in free agency that they will be highly likely to pull the trigger on one of the top guys with their #4 overall pick.
They might prefer to take Young, Stroud, or Richardson, but with those players off the board in this mock draft, Will Levis becomes the next available player and has the potential (albeit with a low floor) to get their franchise back on track.
Will Anderson might be the best overall prospect in the 2023 NFL draft class. He has the physical abilities, the film, and all the tools to succeed at a high level in the NFL. He’s dominated against SEC opponents and became the leader of Alabama’s defense who could be the No.1 overall pick in some drafts.
This would be a great move by Seattle who got this pick for Russell Wilson and instantly turned it into a player who could quickly become one of the best edge rushers in the league. Anderson will be the early favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year as the first non-QB off the board.
