March 9th, 2021 was highlighted by the 2021 NFL Franchise Tag deadline which saw 10 total players get tagged (including Dak Prescott by technicalities). Bears WR Allen Robinson, Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin, Giants DL Leonard Williams, Saints S Marcus Williams, Panthers OT Taylor Moton, Jaguars OT Cam Robinson, Washington OG Brandon Scherff, Jets S Marcus Maye, and Broncos S Justin Simmons will all play the 2021 NFL season under a lucrative one-year contract or have until July 15 to work out a long-term extension with their respective teams. 

Tampa Bay also worked out a two-year deal with Lavonte David while Tennessee released CB Malcolm Butler, 3x Pro Bowl OG Kyle Long announced his return to the NFL, and Yankees RP Zack Britton will miss over half of the upcoming MLB season.

1958: Detroit Pistons SF George Yardley became the 1st player in NBA history to score 2,000 points in a single season

1946: Boston Red Sox OF Ted Williams turned down an offer to play in the Mexican League for a $500,000 salary — 10x greater than his MLB salary 

1897: Cleveland Spiders signed OF Louis Sockalexis, a full-blooded member of the Penobscot tribe; his quick rise to stardom led to fans referring to the Cleveland team as the “Indians”, and the nickname would be revived in 1915 by the former “Naps”
