1989: Pittsburgh Pirates OF Barry Bonds hit his 76th career HR to give him and his father, Bobby, the all-time father-son HR record (408); Barry’s 763 career HRs would have set the record himself, but Bobby’s 332 give the duo a whopping 1,095

1987: Oakland Athletics 1B Mark McGwire became the 1st rookie to hit 30 HRs before the All-Star break in MLB history 

1947: Making his debut with the Cleveland Indians at 1B, Larry Doby became the 1st black player in AL history

1934: New York Yankees 1B Lou Gehrig hit his 17th career grand slam in a victory over the Washington Senators, passing Babe Ruth’s total for the all-time record. Gehrig finished with 23 Grand Slams which stood as the record all the way until 2013 when Alex Rodriguez claimed the record with No. 24 en route to 25 career slams
