August 25th, 2021 was remembered for the longest MLB game since adding an automatic runner on 2nd base as the Dodgers beat San Diego 5-3 thanks to AJ Pollock’s 16th inning GW 2-run HR to overcome Fernando Tatis Jr.’s game-tying shot in the previous inning. Plenty of other walk-offs and clutch hits came about on Wednesday as the Cubs-Rockies was the longest double-header game since they’ve been scheduled for seven innings and the Orioles FINALLY ended their 19-game losing streak by putting up double-digit runs.
MLB’s No.1 prospect Wander Franco keeps living up the hype with a historic reached on base streak at such a young age. LA Rams acquired RB Sony Michel to replenish a depleted backfield, WR Devin Funchess is out for the season (again), and the Raiders acquired LB Denzel Perryman from Carolina. Blue Jays SP Robbie Ray and the Brewers also set records with their phenomenal pitching performances.
See what happened in sports on August 25th last year, headlined by the first MLB no-hitter of 2020, the Clippers’ historic Game 5 win, and Jamal Murray going off to force a Game 6 vs. Utah. This daily sports article includes real headlines only (no clickbait rumors), all of the best highlights, interesting facts from around the NFL, NBA, & MLB, the main games to watch, top performances of the day, notable birthdays, and a quick recap of significant events on this day in sports history.
