1998: New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter made his iconic jump throw to 1st base to rob Cleveland Indians’ Travis Fryman of an infield single during ALCS Game 2 which NYY lost 4-1 in 12 innings but won the series in 6 games and then swept the World Series

1993: Despite 7 consecutive scoring titles and 3 consecutive NBA championships, SG Michael Jordan decided to retire from the game of basketball and try his hand at baseball after his father passed away. He returned 18 months later with the words “I’m back.”

1985: At 46 years old, New York Yankees SP Phil Niekro became the oldest Pitcher to record a shutout in MLB history and also picked up his 300th career victory

1911: HOF SP Cy Young made his final MLB appearance with the Boston Rustlers (Braves), a disappointing 13-3 loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers
