October 2, 2022 in sports was highlighted by the Buffalo Bills coming back from a 17-point deficit to defeat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20. Mahomes made highlight-reel plays on SNF in a 41-31 victory against Brady’s Bucs. Kenny Pickett made his NFL debut after Mitch Trubisky was benched in loss to Zach Wilson and the Jets, who also made his season debut. Patriots backup QB Brian Hoyer got injured just a week after starter Mac Jones went down with a high ankle sprain, so rookie Bailey Zappe made his NFL debut in an OT loss to the Packers.

Atlanta Braves got the biggest win of the 2022 MLB regular season thanks to sweeping the Mets for control of the NL East while the Blue Jays set records against Boston this year. Minnesota beat Detroit after a GW-FG in London, Seahawks and Lions had an unexpected shootout, and Cooper Rush moved to 4-0 as a QB starter. The Eagles used another big 2nd quarter to take down Jacksonville in Doug Pederson’s return to Philly, Dameon Pierce had the longest rookie RUSH TD in Texans history, plus the Miami Heat signed Tyler Herro to a large extension.

2001: Chicago Cubs OF Sammy Sosa became the 1st player to record 60+ HRs during 3 separate seasons in MLB history 

1995: Chicago Bulls acquired PF Dennis Rodman from the San Antonio Spurs, sparking another 3-year championship run

1994: In the very 1st meeting between father-son head coaches, the Miami Dolphins and HOF HC Don Shula defeated his son David in a 23-7 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals

1983: Green Bay Packers set an NFL record with 49 points in the 1st half (35 in the 2nd Qtr) for a 55-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1968: St. Louis Cardinals SP Bob Gibson broke Sandy Koufax’s World Series and postseason record with 17 strikeouts during a Game 1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Gibson’s 17 Ks still stand as the MLB Postseason & World Series record

1965: Los Angeles Dodgers SP Sandy Koufax set a MLB World Series record with 15 strikeouts during a Game 1 victory over the New York Yankees

1950: Chicago Cardinals TE Bob Shaw set an NFL record with 5 REC TD during 1 game against the Baltimore Colts. It has since been tied 2x but never surpassed
