When on the field, Josh Gordon is one of the best NFL receivers. The question is not if Gordon can play well, but how long is he going to be on the field. He has a history of substance abuse that has spanned multiple seasons and threaten to destroy a very promising career. The Kansas City Chiefs are taking a chance on Gordon to be their second WR option behind Tyreek Hill. Off the field issues aside, if Flash can stay on the field, there are many reasons to believe he can be productive with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball.
Having Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Josh Gordon, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and speedster Mecole Hardman, along with a newly formed offensive line should make Patrick Mahomes a happy QB. There may not be a more talented set of skill players in the NFL than on the Chiefs when healthy and on the field. Gordon’s had a tumultuous history with substance abuse and is as unreliable as any NFL player but if he shows flashes of his 2013 1st Team All-Pro self, he’ll be well worth the small risk the Chiefs are taking here.
With Mahomes at QB and a solid coaching staff to give him structure, Gordon is in a great position to succeed on and off the field. If Gordon can go the rest of the season without any familiar hiccups, then the Chiefs should see value from having him on the field with the rest of the stacked Chiefs offense. Hopefully, Josh Gordon can get his life back together by reaching his potential on a top-5 NFL team and be the missing piece to what can be an explosive Chiefs offense.
