After growing up on a farm and going to college for four years at close to home school Louisiana Tech, Karl Malone was drafted by the small-market Utah Jazz with the 13th pick in the 1985 draft that proved to be a perfect fit for the ‘Mailman’. In just his second NBA season, Malone started all 82 games and played 35 MPG, averaging 21.7 PPG and 10.4 RPG. The Mailman continued that excellence next season and thereafter by averaging at least 27 PPG and 10 RPG in each of the next six years.

With teammate John Stockton starting to show what he was capable of in the late ’80s, the Jazz started to become a legitimate threat in the Western Conference. In the ’96-97 season, Malone won his first of two MVP’s and led the Jazz to the Finals for the first time in franchise history, only to lose to Michael Jordan’s Bulls.

Malone followed his MVP season by leading the Jazz to the best record in the NBA and back to the NBA Finals, where they would lose once again to MJ’s Bulls. Malone won his second MVP award during the ’98-99 lockout season, and continued to play for the Jazz up until 2003, where he played his final year for the Lakers and retired after 19 dominant seasons in the NBA.

KARL MALONE IS 1 OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS TO NEVER WIN A NBA CHAMPIONSHIP

Karl Malone was one of the most unstoppable players in NBA history and spent 19 seasons breaking record after record for the Utah Jazz, Power Forwards, and the entire NBA. “The Mailman” has 2 MVP’s, the second most career PTS, and seventh most career REB in NBA history.

Stockton and Malone spent every year together in the playoffs, including multiple seasons leading the Jazz to the best record in the NBA, but were unable to get past Jordan to get the elusive championship ring. On top of Malone’s Hall of Fame resume, he also has the most career PTS and MIN among players who have not won a title.
