Friday marked the end of a couple postseason droughts as the San Diego Padres won their first playoff series in the 21st century while the Miami Marlins added to their MLB record with a seventh series victory without a single loss. Because San Diego and Miami were victorious, that also meant the AL Central & NL Central who combined to make up 7 of the 16 teams in the postseason ALL lost in the first round. While the Marlins are 7-0 all-time in the postseason, Central teams were 0-7 in the 2020 playoffs. That fact is crazy and some of these highlights from the final day of the Wild Card round were pretty wild too.

Fernando Tatis Jr. electrified the baseball world on Thursday with his clutch dingers and epic bat flips. On Friday, he showed off his superstar status due to his unique athletic ability on the field that helped him make some highlight-worthy plays with his glove. The face of the MLB had a phenomenal postseason debut that he’ll look to carry over to the NLDS against the Dodgers

Known for his affection toward Pedro Martinez, Sixto Sanchez looked exactly like his HOF idol on Friday with an outstanding repertoire of pitches and the ability to dial in during his team’s biggest game of the season.

Sanchez got some help from his RF with this perfect throw to keep the Cubs scoreless.

The Miami Marlins beat the Cubs 2-0 on Friday. Sixto Sanchez shut Chicago down from the mound while Garrett Cooper provided the spark Miami’s offense needed with this clutch solo shot in the 7th that ruined Darvish’s shutout.

San Diego Padres have become one of, if not the most fun team to watch in all of baseball. They have exciting players, make big-time plays, and display antics and a camaraderie that can turn any casual baseball viewer into a real fan of the game, as they are the true representation of “letting the kids play.” These ‘kids’ will now be facing the best team in baseball in a NL West battle with a National League Championship appearance on the line after their victory over St. Louis for the franchise’s first postseason series victory since ’98.

Friday’s MLB Wild Card action was followed with the unfortunate news of the passing of one of the greatest pitchers ever in Bob Gibson. His death at 84 years old came exactly 52 years after his greatest career performance and one of the best championship appearances in sports history as the Hall of Famer racked up a World Series record 17 strikeouts against a Tigers team that featured SIX HOFs.
