The 2017 World Series was one of the greatest Fall Classics of all-time in a back-and-fourth series that featured plenty of exciting games during the memorable 7-game series that is now tainted because of Houston’s cheating scandal. 2020 featured the first time these two teams have played each other since and this night saw the Astros pull off an exhilarating comeback, no cheating necessary. The Yankees, Cubs, Angels, and Blue Jays joined Houston with late victories on 9/12.

The 2017 World Series re-match seemed to heavily favor the loser of that epic series up until the 9th inning where typically solid closer Kenley Jansen was getting teed off as he didn’t get a single batter out during his save attempt, but allowed four runs to score for Houston’s best win of the year so far.

Houston didn’t have to walk off to win the game in the final frame on Saturday just like the Cubs, Angels, and Blue Jays, who all made great plays late in the game to walk away with a win. Luke Voit on the other hand did get a true walk-off, doing so in sac fly fashion.

When it comes to making web gems, outfielders typically either have two options: rob a home run or make an outstanding diving catch. This section is all about the latter as Lourdes Gurriel, Victor Reyes, and Justin Upton showcased some high-quality speed to get to these balls and bring them in for the out.

Most sports books didn’t even list Jose Abreu as a top-50 MVP candidate entering the 2020 season, but the Chicago slugger has raked all season and put together a signature MVP performance (4-4, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 5 R) on Saturday to help the White Sox rout Detroit 14-0 as they sit atop the AL Central with 15 games remaining.

The pitcher’s main responsibility is to get batters out by throwing strikes and getting them to chase at balls outside the zone. At times, teams need them to make plays defensively, but that’s usually completed by throwing the ball to first or running to the bag and catching it on balls hit to the right side of the infield. It’s extremely rare to see a pitcher field a grounder and get an out all by himself, especially at 3B, which is what makes this play so special.

Seth Lugo had the best play by any pitcher on Saturday, but Ian Anderson and Jordan Montgomery produced the best overall performances as Anderson only allowed a single hit all game while Montgomery also didn’t give up a single run while racking up a career-high nine K’s.

Full game highlights of today’s close games will be posted here once they conclude.
