Steph Curry continues to amaze as he makes circus shots part of his regular routine. His amazing finish at the rim along with Donovan Mitchell’s dominant performance dropping defenders highlighted Tuesday night in the NBA. Mitchell’s Jazz won their 16th game over their last 17 outings and capped off a five-game winning streak with a glorious dagger over Boston. Carmelo Anthony passed Oscar Robertson for the 12th most career points ever as he drained a season-high 23 points to team with Damian Lillard as the Blazers beat Orlando.

Derrick Rose made his debut with the Tom Thibadeou Knicks, his third time playing for a Thibs-led squad, and dropped a no-look dime during a game that came down to the wire. Jimmy Butler led the Heat’s spoiling of Rose’s Big Apple homecoming as Miami has now won three in a row. NOLA is now on their own four-game win streak after a blowout victory vs. Houston, Detroit ended their four-game losing streak with a win over the KD-less Nets, and Joel Embiid had another MVP-caliber performance for a Sixers victory in Sac-town.

Here are the best NBA highlights, facts, performers, and takeaways from February 9th, 2021:

NBA TOP PERFORMERS

Carmelo Anthony deserves more recognition as one of the greatest scorers of all-time

Back in 2003 when Carmelo Anthony first entered the league, there was an ongoing debate whether LeBron James or Melo was going to be the better NBA player. While that discussion evaporated within a few years, it doesn’t take away from the greatness that Carmelo has accomplished himself.

King James is one of, if not the greatest player to ever play the game, and has undoubtedly casted a shadow on Melo’s career due to his own unprecedented success as a 2003 NBA Draft class member. That along with a lack of a championship has suffocated Anthony’s all-time legacy in the eyes of NBA fans.

Regardless of his team’s success over his 18-year career, nobody can take away his all-time scoring prowess. Tuesday marked the day he officially passed the Big O Oscar Robertson for 12th on the career scoring list, and he’ll likely enter the top-10 by the end of the year. Anthony’s playing style isn’t one that usually leads to Championships as a No.1 option, but as a supporting cast member on Portland, he can bring an offensive punch to the second unit that desperately needs someone who can get their own shot.

It won’t be known how realistic his title aspirations are this season until CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic show their fully healthy by the playoffs, but even if he retires without a ring, he’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer and one of the greatest scorers to ever play the game. Scoring is the most difficult and significant skill to have in the game of basketball and Anthony did it better than almost anyone. Instead of knocking him for what he hasn’t accomplished in his illustrious career, let’s just appreciate all that he has done.
